Episode 22: Mike Warner - A Passion for Seafood

Mike grew up by the sea through the late 60s and 70s, and as he puts it, has salt water in his blood. He talks about life in Felixstowe Ferry, a fishing village just north of Felixstowe, as boy and present day. Mike is a fisherman, consultant, supplier, seafood chef and runs a blog ‘A Passion for Seafood’.

Georgina Little - Suffolk Brand Photographer

Georgina talks about her lifelong love for photography and how, whilst living in Kenya, she began to take it more seriously. When the pandemic hit in March 2020, Georgina took a long hard look at what she did, and quite literally ‘pivoted’ her business to working with like-minded creatives and small businesses producing high-end imagery for their brands. Now as ‘Suffolk Brand Photographer’ Georgina is loving her work and has developed an incredibly unique and sought-after service. Georgina talks about her work in depth and unveils some of the secrets to her success.

Ann-marie Doggett - Miami Fox Apparel

Ann-marie just loves the 80s! She talks to us about her passion for 80’s music and Florida and how she has merged these two loves into her new business – Miami Fox Apparel. Before the pandemic Ann-marie ran her own Marketing, Events and PR company in Lowestoft – she talks about her fabulously unique parties and bespoke events – none of which she can do at the moment. Quick thinking and some thorough research, along with her husband, they developed a fabulous logo and very exciting fashion brand Miami Fox Apparel. This brand is fresh and exciting and has spread its success both locally and internationally.

Kate Byrne - Asgard Fitness, Newmarket

Kate, along with her fiancée Dan Jones and friend Paul Turner noticed a gap in the market in Newmarket for an independent gym – they wanted a gym that cared about its members personally and created a mini-community of members and staff. ‘Asgardians’ (members and staff) are involved with some of the decision-making at Asgard, including thoughts on new equipment and other facilities which gives the club a great sense of unity and belonging.

Sasha Peggs - Langham Clinic

Sasha had dreamt of being a beauty therapist she was just 12 years old – and she tells the brilliant story of her determination to get into the College of Fashion – she got in! Eventually! Sasha opened Langham Clinic in 2016 and is proud to have a carbon charter accreditation – a fully eco business.

Janene Hawkins Bush - Heavenly Hair, Sir Barber and Quay Street Collective

Janene has been in the hairdressing business for 30 years, is part of the Fellowship of British Hairdressers and part of the 2019 Project X team. Janene saw a massive opportunity to bring a London-class salon to the Suffolk coast area and now runs three salons: Heavenly Hair in Saxmundham. Sir Barbers in Aldeburgh and Quay Street Collective in Woodbridge.

Hannah Powell - Perrywood Sudbury and Perrywood Tiptree Garden Centres

Perrywood garden centre has been a family business for 70 years and Hannah grew up living and breathing the outdoor life. Her passion and interests have always been in the garden and following a degree in Horticulture and 10 years in London as a PR and Marketing professional, she returned to the fold to help run the family business. Hannah tells us why Perrywood is a unique garden centre with professional horticulturists on hand to help you with any gardening advice
